Thinking Tool: Q&A in a FORM-poem

When I have to think about structural, philosophical, emotional or spiritual dimensions of Music, or have to find my path through new territory. I formulate questions, words, ideas, answers and put the into a FORM.

FORM helps form-ulate all thoughts, helps stripping it down to a minimum of words, structures ideas, connects and repeats. It’s like a poem, a song, music, it’s a Q&A FORM-poem. I use this way of writing when I need to find new ways of thinking, extending ideas, explore worlds.

Instead of writing everything in a diary or an extended letter, which is also helpful, formulating a Q&A FORM-poem, structuring text in a FORM, forces you to reconsider every word. No word is taken for granted when you have to make a structured FORM with it. In my opinion, trying to find the answers for yourself, this is a good way of reflecting on your initial ideas. When something doesn’t work, it will show within the structure, repetition, FORM.

Song Sparrow.

Here is an example of a Q&A FORM-poem exploring Darkness:

Only a ransacked Song Sparrow

I was exploring Darkness and wondered: What is Darkness with a capital ‘D’?

So,

I tried to SEE the Musical CONTRAST between:

The Light of Solomon Song of Songs

and

The Darkness of the book Job.

So,

I tried to SEE the Musical DELIGHT of Solomon.

In that moment, I saw complete sparkling light.

and

In that moment, I understood that:

‘Tears must be shed’

‘Innocence is unaware of Darkness’

‘Angels look out for us’

and

In that moment, I understood that:

‘This is the HONEST STRUGGLE.’

So,

I tried to SEE the Musical LAMENT of Job.

In that moment, I saw complete black darkness.

and

In that moment, I understood that:

‘Tears must be shed’

‘You die a little writing MUSIC.’

‘Music needs Blood’

and

In that moment, I understood that:

‘This is the HONEST STRUGGLE.’

You are exploring Darkness and wonder: What is Darkness with a capital ‘D’?

I tell you:

Only a ransacked Song Sparrow knows.

And when you want to go all the way through Darkness,

find a ransacked Song Sparrow,

Only a ransacked Song Sparrow can have your back.
